Human-Robot Interaction and Robot Intelligence Group

The Human-Robot Interaction(HRI) and Robot Intelligence(RI) Group, as a part of Robotics and Media Institute in KIST, is one of the strongest research units for HRI and robot intelligent technologies in Korea. From personal mobile devices to intelligent robots, from sensors to IoT systems – our modern living and working environments are progressed with the advancement of information and communication technology, robot technology, AI, and more.

HRI and robot intelligence are a multidisciplinary field with contributions from human–computer interaction, artificial intelligence, robotics, natural language understanding, design, and social sciences. Our group are mainly interested in such research areas as,

  • Robot Perception (Object Recognition, Tracking, Behavior Analysis)
  • Vision-based Navigation and Manipulation
  • Human-Robot Interaction and Social Robotics
  • Intelligent S/W Architecture and Learning for Robot Intelligence
  • Robot Audition (Sound Localization, Sound Classification)
  • Multi-agent Robots (AV-fusion based Leader-Fallowing)
  • Human Motion Imitation of a Humanoid Robot
  • Human Motion Analysis
  • Rehabilitation/Assist Robots.

The HRI and RI Group aims to develop the fundamental technologies on the areas and make them useful in many practical applications, not only robotics field but other industries. As recent applications, the group had developed the socially assistive robotic companion to help the autism therapy of children and have been developing the life care robot to monitor and socially assist dementia patients.

In all the HRI and robot intelligence areas, the HRI and RI Group is the direct contact for companies and users alike. We offer technological know-how and a broad variety of experts as well as the latest technology required to help companies achieve their goals. The group provides applied R&D in almost all HRI and RI sectors and for a broad range of industries.
